A Dose of Lyrics Diagnose

Every so often when I listen to music I analyze the lyrics (what a dork). I do this especially to and from work while on the San Mateo Bridge. I know most of you don't know this bridge so let me describe it... it is 9 miles of absolute straightness! Trust me, your mind will always be wandering off while driving through this bridge. The scenery of the whole San Francisco bay and a distant peak at the two cities of San Francisco and Oakland, as well as the Golden Gate Bridge will add to setting your mind to daydream mode.
Anyway, today, the song that was playing as I hopped on the bridge was "Can You Stand the Rain" by New Edition (Boyz II Men has an acapella version which is really cool). Know this one? Well, here's the lyrics...
On a perfect day
I know that I can count on you.
When that's not possible,
tell me can you weather the storm?
Cause I need somebody who will stand by me
through the good times and bad times
she will always, always be right there.
Sunny days
everybody loves them
tell me baby, can you stand the rain?
Storms will come,
this we know for sure
Can you stand the rain?
Love unconditional
I'm not asking just of you.
And girl, to make it last
I'll do whatever needs to be done.
But i need somebody who will stand by me,
when it's tough, she won't run
she will always, be right there for me.
Sunny days
everybody loves them.
tell me baby, can you stand the rain?
Storms will come
(I know I know all the days won't be perfect)
this we know for sure
but tell me, can you stand it, can you stand the rain?
Can you stand the rain?
No pressure, no pressure from me baby
cause I want you
and I need you
and I love you girl!
Will you be there for me?
Come on baby lets go get wet.
Can you stand the rain?
There you go...
Can you stand the rain... a question that should be asked in the beginning of all relationships. The problem is, in the beginning, it's always sunny. So who and how will you ask a question like that during good times? Most people just shut up, close their eyes, and enjoy the sun.
When the storm starts to arrive, that's when questions pop up. If this is you, then you have learned to love the person for just their good points. You feel that and you wonder if your significant other also feels the same. Storm comes, and the test of "unconditional" love now begins.
We ask the question, "Can you stand the rain?" to our partner. Shouldn't we be asking that to ourselves too? We should right? Before we can ask someone else to stand the rain, we have to be willing to stand the rain ourselves.
We all hope for our partners to always be able to withstand the rain. Not much people like the rain that's why. But I have a question. If the storm is there, and your partner can withstand the rain, doesn't just the idea and reality of the fact make your day bright again?? Just a thought. I don't mean to boggle any minds.
Anyway, like I said, Not much people like the rain. And as the song says, "Sunny days, everybody loves them." What's not to love about the sunny days? You can have so much fun under the sun. Do alot of things we enjoy doing. And clearly you can see just how beautiful the one you love really is. But isn't it also just as romantic to be standing under the rain in the comfort or keeping comfort with the person you love? And it's blurry and hazy, but in your heart and mind, you can still feel the beauty of the person through that comforting love shielding us and keeping us warm from the rain? Isn't that something nice to experience as well? Isn't that why there's a line in the lyrics, "Come on baby let's go get wet."
I think that's just as good. But that's just me.
Even though I started my reaction saying that "Can you stand the rain?" is a question that should be asked in the beginning of all relationships, the truth of the matter is, this question should never have to be asked at all. "On a perfect day," we should all know the answer. And in this way, we should not worry about stormy days. Because everything will be bright.
P.S. This is just my interpretation. Feel free to comment me with your own interpretations, comments on my interpretation, or even any violent reactions. :P
